Flying Start Pre-School Room - Wakwakarna (3-5 years)
The Flying Start Pre-School Room (Wakwakarna) offer a play based curriculum using the Early Years Learning Framework. Children at this age are supported to continue to build autonomy and independence. They begin to take on new responsibilities in order to develop into positive and active contributors to our world. Family input is very important to our planning. We welcome shared conversations with families and are happy for families to e-mail through information too.
We are lucky to have such a large outdoor play area where painting, sand play, ball games, dramatic play props, bikes and trucks are all utilised. The centre’s Learning Garden at the front of the centre further supports children’s learning. We explore concepts of life-cycles, build sustainable practices, making valuable connections to the community and the earth. It is also a wonderful place of discovery with many opportunities to find bugs and worms and harvest fruit and vegetables.
Curriculum
We will support your child to become a confident and involved learner. We believe that children learn best through play. In accordance with the ‘National Quality Standard’, our Preschool Program implements the Early Years Learning Framework, ‘Belonging, Being, Becoming.’
The learning outcomes are:
- Children have a strong sense of identity
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators
We aim to have a flexible program that builds on the children’s interests as well as focusing on family input and community events and involvement. Through these meaningful experiences, children learn valuable literacy, numeracy and scientific skills and their social and emotional wellbeing is fostered.
Through a collaboration of family, child and educator input, long term goals are developed for each child to support their dispositions for learning. Dispositional learning is the key to support children to become lifelong learners. Skills such as persistence, imagination, commitment, enthusiasm, cooperation and confidence are supported through building strong relationships, play based learning and Intentional Teaching.

Portfolios and learning stories
Belonging, Being and Becoming
We currently use Storypark App that is updated regularly by your child’s primary caregiver.
Educators plan for your child individually using the Early Years Learning Framework: ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming.’ Other educators can also add things to Storypark and group experiences are also documented for shared learning.
Ages of Children
Preschool Program
Our Preschool Program caters for children aged 4 to 5 years of age. When your child starts preschool depends on when they will be starting school.
Children are eligible to receive 15 hours of preschool for 40 weeks of the year in the year prior to starting school. From 2026 we will be offering Preschool for 3 year old children.
The new teacher-led 3 year old preschool program is designed around children's developmental needs and key learning outcomes
Drop Off and Collection Times
The centre is open from 7:00am to 6:30pm and the preschool program operates from 8:30am – 4:30pm. All children over the age of two years will still be merged at the beginning and end of the days.
What to bring each day
In a small bag or backpack please supply the following each day:
- A named legionaries or broad brimmed hat
- A change of clothes (more if your child is still needing assistance with toileting)
- A named water bottle
All meals, snacks and drinks are provided throughout the day in accordance with our Policy.
We follow the principles of the ‘Start Right Eat Right’ program and provide children with 50% of the childs nutrition with meals and snacks.
Sleep and Rest
As every child is active and engaged in so many things during the day, we value the importance of rest. This is important for children’s health, emotion and wellbeing.
It allows children time to regulate their feelings, recognising the signs of our bodies and providing for our needs.
Session Times/Days
At present, the Warradale Community Children’s Centre Preschool operates Flying Start Preschool Monday to Friday during the school terms.
Your child is eligible for the Preschool program 2 years before they start school.
Two full days will cover your child’s entitlement to 15 hours of preschool for 40 weeks of the year.
Fees
Your long day care fee and child care rebate still apply. There are no additional charges for the Preschool Program.
